Manoir de Gourin

Manoir de Gourin is an elegant 19th century French Maison de Maitre built in the early 1800s by a winemaker M. Auguste Gourin. Monsieur Gourin was a landowner and gentleman of some repute and the mayor of the commune for many years. His initials AG are immortalised on one of the chimney stacks of the house.

The house sits in large and mature grounds, fully enclosed and secure, entered via automatic remote controlled gates. It is set in the heart of unspoilt countryside in the hamlet of L’Humeau de Bray near Saumur in the Loire valley and offers a welcome retreat from everyday life. The beautiful house has been fully restored back to a typical French gentleman’s residence and altered sympathetically to provide our guests with all the comforts required for total relaxation and enjoyment during their stay.

The formal salon offers guests, on our residential wine tours, a comfortable and cosy place to relax with a book or newspaper and to enjoy the company of other guests over coffee, a glass of wine or after dinner liqueur. The extensive book library contains a varied selection of wine tomes for the use of our guests.

The dining room has been restored in a baroque style and provides a cosy, intimate backdrop for guests to enjoy our gourmet dinners and wine tasting.

The house terrace was the former winemaker's cellar or 'chai' and is now a cool, shaded  terrace overlooking the formal garden. It extends along the rear of the house with lovely views over the garden and is the delightful location for our introductory wine presentations.

Guests who stay in the converted coach house may also relax in the enclosed courtyard where there are tables and chairs to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or eat al fresco.

The heated swimming pool is enclosed within an attractive private walled terrace. This provides a lovely sheltered area for sunbathing or taking a refreshing dip.

The rear gardens have tranquil sitting areas to read or chat with a drink. For our more energetic guests we have badminton or boules to challenge your partner or fellow guest!

We look forward to welcoming you to the house. Please view our photo gallery.
